James Carskadon returned to his alma mater and joined the Office of Public Affairs in July 2016 as a news writer. In that role, he writes news releases and feature stories about Mississippi State University with the goal of promoting MSU to local, statewide and national audiences.

Since joining the Office of Public Affairs, his work has been recognized with several awards from the Public Relations Association of Mississippi and the Southern Public Relations Federation.

The Starkville native came to the Office of Public Affairs from the Starkville Daily News, where he covered education and government in Oktibbeha County. Prior to that, he was a media studies student at the University of Oregon and worked as a graduate teaching and research assistant.

He graduated with honors from MSU in 2012 with a degree in communication, with concentrations in journalism and broadcasting. As a student, Carskadon was a member of the Shackouls Honors College and sports editor of The Reflector. He also worked as a student researcher in MSU's Social Science Research Center and as a freelance writer for various news organizations. He helped launch the MSU Department of Communication's social media efforts, and he was a member of Lambda Pi Eta communication honor society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Carskadon lives in Starkville with his wife, Camille. He enjoys watching MSU sports and spending time with his family and friends.
